ROMA VIOLENTA

15th of October 2011 was the day of protests across Europe against the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the economic policies of European national governments. About 150.000 protesters gathered in Rome joining the international movement of indignados, born in Spain after the crisis of december 2011 against unemployment, precarious and illegal work, social inequality and financial speculation. In the afternoon, near Piazza San Giovanni, the peaceful parade turned into a violent guerrilla, with cars burned, shops broken, for a total of more than one milion euro damages, 200 injured and 12 arrests.

ANZHI MAKHACHKALA

Makhachkala is the capital of Daghestan, a caucasic republic part of Russian federation, with a population estimated in 700.000 of which 80% is unemployed. Here more then 25 ethnic groups live together and 90% of the population is muslim. Terrorism is widespread and there is an high rate of corruption. On 18 January 2011, the club was purchased by oil billionaire Suleyman Kerimov, supported by the President of Daghestan Magomedsalam Magomedov. The year 2011 marks a milestone in the history of the club and its fans: February 16, the club has officially announced the signing of a legend of world football, the Brazilian Roberto Carlos. On 23 August 2011, the Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto´o signed to play at FC Anzhi Makhachkala for approximately € 28m. The club´s players live and train in the Moscow region, returning in Daghestan for the local matches and meet the families.
 

BARLETTA

On 3th of october 2011, a building collapsed in the center of Barletta, a city of southern Italy. At the first floor, there was a knitwear factory run by women, five of them died under the rubble, one was the daughter of the owner, 14 years old. The women were working 12 hours a day, without a legal contract, their salary was less than 4 euros per hour. In the south of Italy there is the highest rate of unemployment in the country: 50% of the people is unemployed and 20% of the workers have no legal contract. The funeral took place on 6th of october 2011.

WEEKEND WORKSHOP WITH VALERIO SPADA

NOVEMBER  26-27, 2011 / Pianello Val Tidone PC ITALY

Cesuralab presents two days with photographer Valerio Spada. Lessons will focus on the ability to communicate through photography, graphics and text. The multidisciplinary nature of the new forms of communication will be the main theme of the course, in relation to “Gomorrah girl” an independently published book in which photographs and police documents are bound together. Valerio Spada won the international award Photography Book now” 2011. He will discuss about his experience: how to produce, distribute and communicate an innovative editorial project. Students will have the possibility to show their photographic projects and discuss with the teacher about their work and new ways of approaching a personal project.

SELF PUBLISHING: CESURALAB, 3/3 AND LINKE

On saturday 22th of October Cesuralab will be guest at Ivrea FotoFestival for a meeting on self-publishing with 3/3 from Rome and Linke from Milan.

ADO, LIVE PERFORMANCE

On the 15th of October Cesuralab made a lecture in Spazio Gerra (Reggio Emilia) proposing a debate related to the issue of new forms of communication in the photographic documentary approach. During the meeting were projected two video projects run by cesuralab: "Kyrgyzstan Uncensored" a document about the events of 2010 in Kyrgyzstan and “Ado”, a documentary on the African Spring produced by Cesuralab photographers, accompained by a live session performed by the band My Silver Booster.

PORTFOLIO SUBMISSION IS CLOSED

Cesuralab has reviewed all the portfolios submitted for a new nominee entrance and will reply to the chosen photographer in a period of two weeks.
