Afghanistan.2012.Bamyan. Since 2003, Italy supports the construction of the road Maidan Shar-Bamyan, mainly funding the Afghan Ministry of Public Works, responsible of the construction for a total budget of 103 million euros. In the Bamyan valley, famous for the giant statues of Buddhas destroyed by the Taliban regime, the Italian Cooperation distributes kits to the villagers as compensation for the seized lands on which the road will be built. These remote villages at 3700 m high, are isolated during the winter months, mostly inhabited by families of shepherds and farmers. Blankets and food are welcomed by locals with kindness, a generous gesture from Italy who earn the respect and unconditionated trust of ethnic Hazaras who live in the valley.
