Detroit 2009-2010

by Luca Santese

The motto of Detroit recites: “Speramus meliora, Resurget Cineribus”, that’s the original latin for: “We Hope For Better Things; It Shall Rise From the Ashes”.

Detroit is now beneath the ashes of one of the most serious crisis of the capitalistic system and in all probability the hope is among the ashes.

This project points out and shows the situation of abandon of this city: every kind of building – civil, military, religious – is abandoned; the prosperity that once characterized, here, the families has abandoned them and instead of that there’s apathy, desperation, proliferation of drugs addiction and crime.

Should this city try to find reliance among the old ashes or should just lie in the hopeless?
