The morning after the Brexit referendum, I woke up to friends crying in the living room. What followed were years marked by propaganda, protests, misinformation and political confusion.
In 2019, as the push to “get Brexit done” intensified, I travelled across the UK to explore a country divided against itself. I visited communities that had voted to leave and others that had not, trying to understand how Brexit had quietly reshaped everyday life beyond the headlines and political rhetoric.
Through marches, rallies, working-class towns and symbolic places, I built a personal narration of a nation caught between nostalgia, frustration and disillusionment.
During this journey I met Danny Sloggett in Jaywick, one of the most deprived areas in the UK. Danny welcomed me into his life and community with extraordinary generosity. His philosophy — always ending his Facebook live videos with the words “Shine On” — became the title of this project: a genuine message of hope, but also a reflection of a country searching for light while facing the consequences of its own choices.
